Health in motion

Exercise with a focus on socializing

Exercise and community for citizens affected by illness

Sundhed i bevægelse is an exercise program with various forms of exercise and socializing for citizens in Aalborg municipality who are or have been affected by critical illnesses such as cancer and cardiovascular disease, COPD, diabetes, osteoporosis and arthritis requiring treatment.

After the training there is a café where you can buy coffee/tea and buns.

The training is delivered by professional instructors. You will be welcomed by our volunteer helpers and the instructor when you arrive.

Your first training session is free.

For training, remember comfortable workout clothes, indoor shoes, a towel to lie on and a water bottle.

We offer group training in Haraldslund Vand- og Kulturhus, Gandrup Sundheds- og Foreningshus, Nibe Idræts- og Kulturcenter and in Sognegården in Storvorde.

We have a good setting with life-saving help close to us.

All locations offer free parking.

We do gymnastics with a smile to good music. The exercises strengthen and make muscles and joints supple. We sometimes use balls, elastics or similar tools in the workout. The whole body is worked through to achieve greater body control and body awareness. Strength, balance and flexibility are challenged and fitness is improved.

Gymnastics supports the body's natural movement patterns and thus has a restorative and energizing effect.

Relaxation and mindfulness
Relaxation increases physical and mental well-being, gives new energy and calms the mind. We focus a lot on breathing exercises, as breathing is the most important bodily function of all. 90% of our energy comes from breathing and the whole body is dependent on your breath.
With just 5 improved breaths a day, you have already optimized your energy level and lowered your stress level.

The social
Sundhed i bevægelse has a fantastic and indispensable volunteer team that comes and provides coffee/tea and buns at very reasonable prices in connection with the training. Our café hygge provides the setting for lively conversation between exercisers, volunteers and instructors, and the atmosphere is always good.
Every year we plan a summer excursion and a Christmas party.

Most people know the joy and energy you get when you exercise, preferably with others. This is also true when you have cancer, and exercise can also help reduce the side effects of treatment.

Studies have shown that physical exercise can turn chemo fatigue into both new energy and fatigue in a good way. The immune system, fitness and muscle strength also increase, helping the body in the fight against cancer. You may also experience regaining control and familiarity with your own body.

With us, you can train in a class just for men with cancer. You train at your own pace and according to your own ability. The program also includes relaxation/mindfulness.
You can also join if you have recovered from cancer.

After your workout, you can use the swimming pool facilities, sauna or steam room (this only applies if you have chosen a card with shower/changing room and swimming pool access).

Time and place:
Thursdays 12:30 - 14:30 and then the swimming pool on your own.
Haraldslund Vand- og Kulturhus, Kastetvej 83, 9000 Aalborg.

The first time you come to training at Health in Motion is a FREE trial session, you get the opportunity to test the concept and we offer a free cup of coffee/tea and bread afterwards.

Critical illness and training

It's never too late to exercise and prevention has no age. Not even for the generation of older people who have never exercised before. When you are physically active, your brain releases endorphins, which have an analgesic effect.

If you are in doubt about your physical ability to participate in 'Health in Motion', please contact your own therapist or doctor before starting our classes.

For heart patients

Physical activity is one of the most important elements of rehabilitation. Despite typically feeling more tired in the first months after surgery, the heart works better when you exercise and the heart is not damaged by the strain. Physical exercise has a greater effect on heart patients than the rest of the population, as exercise reduces the risk of getting heart disease again by 3 to 6 times. Heart patients should exercise at light to moderate intensity. It's basically about getting a little out of breath and feeling your breathing.

If you experience chest pain or feel unwell, do not exercise more that day. You should contact your doctor if you experience pain while exercising and if it happens at times when you don't usually experience pain.

Exercise and Osteoporosis

As there is an increased risk of fractures in osteoporosis, it is important that you are aware of whether you have a high risk of fractures before you start training. The risk is related to your T-score, previous fractures or collapses, your general activity level, etc. talk to your doctor if you are in doubt. One of the major risk factors for bone fractures in everyday life is falls, so you need to be comfortable with the type of exercise you choose. The focus of exercise for people with osteoporosis is to strengthen muscles, preserve bone strength and maintain balance - all of which help to reduce the risk of falls.

For diabetic patients

Being regularly physically active means that your body's ability to regulate blood sugar improves, while physical activity also helps to improve cholesterol levels, blood pressure and your fitness level. This also means that your risk of developing diabetes-related complications is reduced. If you have complications in addition to diabetes, such as high blood pressure, diabetic kidney disease, severe eye disease or reduced sensation in your feet, it's a good idea to talk to your diabetes practitioner and/or doctor about any special considerations you need to take before you start our classes.

Exercise and arthritis

When you have arthritis, it's important to keep moving and active, even if you're in pain and tired. However, you should avoid doing exercises that aggravate your pain. Arthritis can result in reduced mobility in the affected joints, which exercise can help counteract. This is because, according to research, exercise not only improves muscle strength, but also strengthens the ability to control a joint during movement. In addition, strong muscles help to protect and relieve your joints.

Exercise and COPD

Exercise can help improve your breathing because improved fitness, increased muscle strength and endurance will help your lungs become less stressed during physical exertion.

For people who have or have had cancer

Exercise has been shown to reduce side effects of cancer treatment and give cancer patients more energy and restore control and familiarity with their bodies.
